The far-right German party "Alternative for Germany" (AFG) is considering the possibility of abandoning its traditional opposition to Germany's membership in the European Union and the Eurozone. This is stated in the strategic document, which Reuters agency got acquainted with on Monday. This proposal is a turning point for the party, founded in 2013, which was originally formed as a reaction to the single currency rescue policy. In the document, which was first reported by the German newspaper Bild, they do not support the immediate withdrawal of Germany from the EU or the euro zone, but propose to radically reform both structures. The AfD proposes turning the Union into a "union of sovereign nations", reducing the role of Brussels and providing for national exceptions in areas such as migration, European finance and social policy. If the reforms fail, the party intends to demand a referendum on Germany's EU membership. The document was drafted by the AGM deputies of the European Parliament, the Bundestag and the federal state parliaments, and it was discussed at a meeting held last month. Any change in the political program must be approved by the party congress. The AGH, which took second place in the last national elections after Chancellor Friedrich Mertz's conservatives, aims to come to power by 2029. However, the main German parties refuse to cooperate with this political force, which the national intelligence service describes as right-wing radicals.
