This was stated by the Chairman of the Russian Historical Society (RIO), Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin, TASS reports.
“We see that, both 100 years ago and today’s geopolitical rivals, opponents of Russia are still irritated by the vastness of our country, its greatness, its human and natural resources. They are still hatching dreams and even plans about changing the state power, the state leadership,” he said during a round table dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the end of the intervention and occupation of Northern Sakhalin by Japan.
“And today we know very well that there are small groups of so-called urban madmen, so to speak, even here. But, thank God, most of them have liberated the territory of the Russian Federation from their presence. But they are hatching plans, with the financial support of the West, to dismember Russia into several parts. In general, all this continues,” Naryshkin added. Therefore, the head of the SVR emphasized, “the study of history, including the history of 100 years ago, around the events related to the liberation of Northern Sakhalin from Japanese occupation, remains very relevant,” because everyone needs to draw the right conclusions, to draw the right conclusions from the events of the past.
