Christian Wiegand, the official representative of the EU, confirmed that Brussels supports the candidacy of Cyprus as before. Georgia aspires to take over the OSCE presidency in 2027, but the European Union opposes its candidacy. This was reported by the Brussels Reporter (former Euractiv) portal. Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili stated that Tbilisi is interested in the presidency and is ready to cooperate with all member states of the organization. However, the European Union is against the Georgian bid. The OSCE remains deadlocked in the issue of the 2027 presidency. Cyprus is the only official candidate, but Turkey blocks its nomination. This gives Georgia an opportunity to present itself as an alternative. According to the newspaper, the Baltic states are particularly negative towards Georgia's candidacy. The next session of the OSCE Ministerial Council will take place in Lugano on December 3-4.
