Trade between Iran and Azerbaijan has increased in the last six months, despite the consequences and challenges of the regional war. This was announced by Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzane Sadigh, Mehr reports. According to him, Tehran expects to maintain this dynamic due to the development of transport infrastructure and the elimination of trade barriers. In particular, Iran is advancing the Julfa-Kelala highway expansion project, which, according to forecasts, will allow increasing the capacity of transport communication between the two countries. "Relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are friendly, fraternal and strategic," Sadigh said after the meeting of the joint commission for economic cooperation between the two countries. The parties also discussed the implementation process of previously reached agreements and the state of joint projects in the economic and transport sectors. At the beginning of September, Iran and Azerbaijan announced the completion of the construction of the Aghband-Kelala road bridge, as well as discussed the completion of the Astara cargo terminal. Sadigh noted that the existing relations create conditions for further expansion of cooperation, and Iran expects to increase the volume of trade and transportation between the two countries.
