The Pan-Armenian Student Association was created as an apolitical umbrella organization to unite Armenian students regardless of their political views. But on September 24 in New York, Nikol Pashinyan met with students who are members of the Association and presented them with his "Real Armenia" ideology, while talking about the relations with the Diaspora and the policies of his government. This was not just a meeting with students. Pashinyan introduced his political agenda into a structure whose main condition was political neutrality, and here the most dangerous aspect of his move was not only the politicization of that organization and the division within it. This was another link in the division of the Diaspora. Lately, in Pashinyan's political speech, reformulation of relations with the Diaspora has become a separate agenda. He has already announced that "Diaspora cannot be Armenia's mentor" and emphasized that the Diaspora is a place in the territory of other countries. The status of communities with status. And now he presents his political ideology within the youth, apolitical structure of the same Diaspora. In fact, on the one hand, the Diaspora is told that you are not on the side of Armenian politics, on the other hand, the Armenian government itself enters the political and social environment of the Diaspora and forms a political agenda there... This is no longer just a contradiction, this is a dual approach, the price of which is paid by the unity of the Diaspora... The strength of a structure like the Pan-Armenian Student Association was precisely that young people with different political views could stand side by side there. This move by Pashinyan turns that common area into a field of choice: are you for this political agenda or against it... And this is where the division begins... One will stay because he accepts Pashinyan's agenda, the other will leave because he does not accept it, the third will begin to doubt whether this organization is for him anymore... This is how pan-Armenian structures are destroyed, not in one day, but from within. The diaspora already has many party, ideological, religious and political platforms, what is missing is the common spaces that bring them all together, and even if those areas are being politicized, then the problem is not Pashinyan's meeting. The problem is that the political division is introduced in the place where the Armenian youth should be connected. For Pashinyan, it may be one match, but Another dividing line for the Diaspora... One of those few platforms should not be sacrificed to one political visit, one ideology or one government's agenda, because when the youth of the Diaspora is divided into "own" and "non-own", we lose more than one member.
