US President Donald Trump proposed to name the new bridge being built over the Mobile River in Alabama in his honor. As the New York Post reports, he announced this during the pre-election rally held on October 2 in the city of Mobile. Trump referred to the $3.2 billion "Mobile River Bridge and Bayway" project, the construction of which is scheduled to begin in October. The plan calls for the construction of 6 new traffic bridges over the Mobile River, as well as expansion of the transportation link between the city of Mobile and the eastern shore of the Gulf. "Maybe they will call this cursed bridge after me. I will only be happy," said Trump, to which the audience responded with enthusiastic applause and cheers. The US president linked the implementation of the project with the funding provided by his administration. In September, the US Department of Transportation announced up to $2.52 billion in federal loans to the state for construction of the bridge and related infrastructure. The total cost of the first phase of the project is 3.2 billion dollars. At the same time, some of the federal funding was allocated under the previous administration. In July 2024, the project received a grant of 550 million dollars, the final formulation of which was made already under Trump, in May 2025.
