Senator Vladimir Jabarov proposed to the Russian Foreign Ministry to consider the possibility of imposing an entry ban on Davit Arushanyan, governor of Shirak, Armenia, after his statement about the Russians, RIA Novosti reports. The politician called the words of the Armenian official contemptuous and stated that he should be held responsible for them. Earlier, Arushanyan criticized the celebration of Gyumri City Day on Facebook, which was organized by the opposition "Strong Armenia" party. In the publication, the governor wrote that "the people of Gyumri are not your Ivans". The Russian Embassy in Yerevan condemned that expression, declaring that such rhetoric reminds of the vocabulary of the German Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. Jabarov, who heads the commission of regulations of the RF Federal Council, called on Arushanyan to remember the historical events. The senator emphasized that Russian servicemen previously protected Armenia from the threat of genocide, and then participated in the fight against fascism. He also reminded that today Russian border guards and the 102nd military base are located in Gyumri, which "ensure the safety of local residents". "Instead of unnecessary rhetoric, the governor should have just thanked," Jabarov said. The senator defended the reaction of the Russian embassy and accused the Armenian official of using rhetoric that he associated with the activities of Western non-governmental organizations. According to him, similar slogans were previously spread in Ukraine, Moldova and Baltic countries.
