Armenia should be removed from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), because the country does not participate in the work of the organization, but at the same time, all decisions need to be agreed with it. Former CSTO General Secretary Nikolay Bordyuzha told "RIA Novosti" about this. At present, CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. In 2024, Armenia announced to "freeze" its participation in the organization, although this is not provided for in the organization's charter, and also stopped paying membership fees. "If they suspend their participation, but do not withdraw, then they remain a full member of the CSTO. And if they are full members, it means that all decisions (and in the CSTO decisions are taken by consensus) must be taken taking into account their position. However, that position today, in fact, contradicts everything that is done in the CSTO," explained Bordyuzha. In his opinion, it would be honest for Yerevan to simply withdraw from the organization, and until this is done, Armenia should be removed from the CSTO. "I would remove them. they don't pay the fees, they don't participate in the works. If we approach the problem seriously, as serious partners they should get up and leave. However, since they have adopted a dual position: "we will not leave, but we will not work, we do not participate and we do not want to", then they should be removed," Bordyuzha is convinced. Earlier, CSTO General Secretary Taalatbek Masadikov announced that the issue of expelling Armenia from the organization may be raised at the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council to be held in Moscow on November 11, 2026. According to his assessment, the republic violates Articles 20 and 25 of the structure's charter.
