In recent months, the Azerbaijani SOCAR oil and gas company actually appeared on the Armenian gasoline market, which became a supplier of gasoline and diesel fuel to the republic through intermediary organizations. On October 30, at the sitting of the National Assembly, during the discussion of the election of a member of the Committee for Competition and Consumer Protection, Edgar Ghazaryan, the deputy of the opposition "Strong Armenia" faction, announced this. "Acting in such a way, what share of the oil products market of Armenia does SOCAR currently occupy?" asked the deputy, addressing the candidate for the vacant position, Shushan Sargsyan. The latter, in turn, stated that he is not aware of cases of direct import of gasoline to the Armenian market by the Azerbaijani company SOCAR or its brand. "According to the information I have, we have not had imports from the country you mentioned in the last few months. We import gasoline from various countries, including European ones," the candidate noted. Ghazaryan countered. "SOCAR is the only company engaged in oil and gas production and processing in Azerbaijan. If the authorities of Armenia declare that diesel fuel or gasoline is imported from Azerbaijan, it should be taken into account that there are simply no other entities there. Does SOCAR not participate in it? How? I am talking about supplies through intermediary companies. In response, Sargsyan simply repeated his theses.
