The night fire in the house of billionaire Martin Drda is being investigated in Prague. He is the owner of the Czech arms group STV Group, which supplies ammunition and military equipment to Ukraine, Novinky reports. The police do not rule out that the cause of the fire could be a technical malfunction, carelessness or deliberate arson. The damage was estimated at 200,000 Czech crowns. The fire took place in Kunratice region, about half an hour before midnight. The neighbors noticed the flames at the entrance of the house and called the emergency services. The fire broke out near the garage, and then partially spread to the thermal insulation and exterior cladding of the building. A fire brigade was sent to the scene, which extinguished the fire covering an area of about one square meter. Firefighters had to dismantle part of the cladding and inspect the structure with a thermal imaging device to make sure there were no combustion chambers left inside. After that, the police joined the investigation. "Currently, criminologists together with fire service specialists are checking all the circumstances and causes of the fire," said the representative of the police, Richard Hrdina. Investigators have not yet ruled out any version of what happened. Possible causes include technical malfunction, carelessness and deliberate arson. The fire came amid warnings of potential threats to European defense enterprises. In mid-October, the Financial Times newspaper, referring to the sources of five European intelligence services, reported that the heads of the arms manufacturing companies could become the target of Russian agents. According to the newspaper, managers of small enterprises engaged in the production of drones and their components may also be at particular risk. Michal Koudelka, head of the Czech Security and Information Service (BIS), also warned about the growing danger of Russian actions. According to his assessment, in the coming months, Russia may resort to more risky and serious actions in the Czech Republic or other democratic countries. At the same time, the police did not report the possible connection of the fire with arms supplies to Russia, Ukraine or the activities of STV Group. A possible deliberate arson remains only one of the hypotheses of the investigation.
