A man who created fake photos with high-ranking state figures, including the president of the republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was arrested in Ankara using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This was reported by the Cumhuriyet newspaper on September 23. "Mehmed C., who reportedly posted AI photos of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and [Turkey's] Justice Minister Akin Gurlek, has been arrested," the article said. According to the Ankara Prosecutor's Office, the suspect posted the received photos on his WhatsApp messenger page in order to create a false impression of having influential connections. As part of the investigation, he was charged with the articles of illegal use of alleged influence and disinformation.
