The Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had to fly to the USA for almost a day to participate in the G20 summit. Due to bypassing the airspace of "unfriendly" countries, the flight lasted 20 hours and 10 minutes, TASS reported. As a result, Lavrov arrived in Atlanta on the night of October 30, where the meeting of foreign ministers of the G20 countries will be held. This event will be of key importance ahead of the G20 leaders' summit scheduled for December 14-15 in Miami. US President Donald Trump said that he wants to see Vladimir Putin at the meeting, but the Kremlin said that no decision has been taken on that issue yet. After the start of a large-scale war in Ukraine, Lavrov had already flown to the USA, bypassing the "unfriendly" countries. Thus, in July 2024, the Russian Minister participated in the sessions of the UN Security Council. At that time, TASS reported that the flight from Moscow to New York lasted more than 12 hours. On September 23 of this year, the Russian Foreign Minister visited New York again to participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. He was in flight for 12 hours and 45 minutes. In general, 49 countries are included in the list of states that Russia considers "unfriendly". They are mainly European Union countries. The International Criminal Court (ICC) did not issue an arrest warrant for Lavrov. Such an order obligates the countries that are parties to the Rome Statute to arrest the person in question if he appears on their territory, and may restrict his international travel. However, arrest warrants were issued for Putin, Russian children's rights defender Maria Lvova-Belova, Secretary of the Security Council Sergey Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. At the same time, the flights of Russian planes are complicated by restrictions on the use of airspace, which were established after the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. In particular, the airspace of all 27 EU countries, as well as Albania, Great Britain, Iceland, Canada, Moldova, Norway, North Macedonia, USA, Montenegro and Switzerland is closed to Russian airlines and aircraft.
