The search for 28-year-old Jacob Allen Morley, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his colleague, continues in the state of Tennessee, the Associated Press reports. The man escaped from prison and hijacked a pickup truck from a nearby farm. According to authorities, his whereabouts were unknown as of Tuesday. Morley was discovered missing from the Northwest Correctional Complex late Sunday evening. According to the investigation, the detainee in prison clothes climbed over the fence and reached a farm near the town of Tiptonville. Surveillance cameras recorded Morley opening the unlocked driver's side door of a white Ford F-350 pickup around 1 a.m. Monday night and driving away. The farm is about three kilometers away from the prison. Firefighters in the city of Hornbeek, located about 19 kilometers from the farm, reported that the cameras of their station recorded the passing of the stolen car about 15 minutes after the theft. Authorities are not yet releasing details of the escape or whether anyone is suspected of helping the detainee. The law enforcement officers inspected the buildings and other structures around the prison. A reward of up to $2,500 has been offered for information leading to Morley's arrest. Morley was serving a life sentence for the 2022 murder of Cody Birchfield. The victim's body was found in a box under the convict's house a few weeks after Birchfield's disappearance. In addition to first-degree murder, Morley was also found guilty of aggravated burglary, destruction of evidence, vandalism and attempting to elude police. When police arrived at his home, he attempted to flee the pursuit, which ended in North Carolina. The Northwest Correctional Complex is located about 90 miles north of Memphis and has a capacity of 1,776 male inmates. In recent years, there have been numerous reports of attacks between detainees and violence by staff. In July, a grand jury indicted him on dozens of counts, including five inmate murders and other violent crimes.
